About the Coin

The Capped Bust Left half eagle was struck from 1807 through 1812 after it was introduced as the first design by John Reich, assistant to the engraver Robert Scot. Reich was hired by the mint in 1807, the same year as his design appeared. Reich's capped bust design appeared on both the half dollar and half eagle in 1807. The only other coin to receive this design was the one year type coin of the 1808 quarter eagle.
